Wow... today has been a good day:
First, I got the highest score on the last calculus test.
Then, my presentation went pretty well (for ad-libbing it). (Even though Leslie made us fill out course evaluations before we could do our presentation... and they took 20 minutes of our available time, which meant that someone couldn't finish their presentation.)
After that, I had the LAST creative writing class I will EVER take.
Then, I checked my KC box and I had a couple of things from my KD Secret Sister. I wasn't expecting that, so it was a nice surprise.
Finally, I will end my classes at Albion by going to my Math Econ class. It's a little sad for me, I may never have another Econ class again... that's not something that I was prepared for. I know I made the right choice, but I know I'm going to miss it.
And later, Bryan and I are going to the Philosophy Major's dinner at Cascarelli's. That will be... difficult. I doubt that Dr. Garvin will be there (he has a hospital bed that he's confined to at home now), but we'll probably go see him afterwards. The department tends to have so few majors that students and professors really get to know each other, so it's going to be hard to leave.
I don't want to get emotional at the dinner tonight or at commencement, it'll be hard, but I really want to keep it together because I get all drippy when I get emotional and I don't want to have to carry a box of kleenex with me everywhere.

I'm so tired of my art history class. I feel like we haven't learned much about ART history, but more about history in general. I know Egyptian history already and I'm bored out of my mind in class. Don't teach the class like it's a legitimate history class, it's not. The amount of history in the class is far to lacking to be a real history class, yet I feel like we haven't even covered much in the actual art area either. It's been quite a waste of time.
I don't know how people can major in this. It's like saying "I like art, I like history, but I don't like either of them enough to work as hard as would be necessary to major in either of them on their own." I've been in an actual history class - it was tough because we had to know the historical context of ideas and then reinterpret the ideas according to the way another historical figure thought. I also had a 1st year seminar that was an art class - it wasn't easy either because there's a certain ability that you either have or don't have when it comes to art, and because we actually learned artistic techniques and had to attempt them.
In conclusion,
Art History = a boring waste of time
Albion, you've done it again - you've made me waste my tuition on a stupid, useless, boring class because your retarted graduation requirements say that it will provide some sort of benefit to me. I could have done more studying this subject on my own (and I have, in the past).

Yes, if you're in le ghetto (like downtown Detroit, Flint, or Saginaw... Actually, you just shouldn't drive around at night in those areas if you don't absolutely have to - too big of a chance of getting shot.)
15. Do you have a secret that no one knows but you? I don't know.. probably not.

Ok... Aleece, you had a wonderful idea with your last post, so I'm going to try it.
List ten things you want to say to ten people but know you never will; don't say who they are. Feel free to comment, but I'm not confirming or answering anything. Never discuss it again outside of this post.
1) You are a dumbass. You need to grow up and get ahold of yourself because you drive everyone (that has to be) around you insane and tick them off like no other, and you're only hurting yourself. Yeah, you hate me (yes, I know you do) and I am not fond of you either (to say the least), but I'm saying this for your own good because, maybe you'll realize something and do something for your own health. PS - People have started to take bets on when you're going to drop out/get kicked out of school because you're such a dumbass. Congratulations, dumbass. [This entry was apparently inspired by Red Foreman on That 70's Show..lol]
2) Seriously, we are so much alike it's just scary. When I was your age, I was you - exactly. I'm happy that you're in my life because you're cool and fun and creative and sweet and all that stuff. I really want to help you out because I know you are a wonderful person that's just having a rough time right now.
3) You are one of my favorite people. You're goofy and fun, smart and interesting, graceful and athletic, you're just an amazing person. It's sad that we were only at Albion for one year together, but I know that I'll be seeing a lot of you... for like, ever.
4) We've had our moments, but I'm really happy that we've gotten so close in the past year. I'm happy that I have a friend like you. Please take care of yourself - sometimes you do way too much for things that just aren't important and your health suffers because you don't get enough rest. I know that you'll figure out what you're going to do with your life, sometimes it just isn't easy and things happen that are out of your control - it will be OK. Breathe.
5) Communism doesn't work because people want their own stuff. It's just not in people to work hard and have their money go to other people. What's the motivation for someone to do that? Also, I'm pretty sure that communists don't wear designer clothes. And seriously, what's up with dressing like a stripper to go and protest rape? It's just not appropriate.
6) Pick something and stick to that... rather than doing EVERYTHING and having the main role in EVERYTHING. You've spread yourself so thin that you're letting an organization slip into shambles. You're just too ambitious. People don't like you - MOST people - because you're a bitch. You're not going to change the world, get over yourself.
7) I know that I haven't been there and I'm partially to blame for my own feelings of not-belonging, but you're not innocent either. I made a choice during sophomore year that I will never regret and that I would do again in a heartbeat, but you have always seemed jealous what came of it or resentful towards it. You made a choice too, the choice to let me go, the choice not to give me what I needed to keep me tied to the group. I tried to get into things, but you didn't let me. I needed that, but you didn't need me.
8) We met at SOAR and I have always thought that you were such a wonderful person. You have always been kind to me and have made me feel like I belong, even when other people did the opposite. You are very bright and talented and are always so classy - I feel lucky to have known you.
At the moment, I can't think of anyone else I would want to say something to... if I do, I'll update.

10:51 pm - My Completely Irrational Fear
Yeah... a really scary movie (in my opinion, as someone who's afraid of ships) is coming out May 12th: Poseidon. Yeah... when I was little, I remember watching a few minutes of the original Poseidon and I had recurring nightmares for like... ever. People I know are always like "Let's go on a cruise!!!" to which I always say "Umm.. no." I don't know why I'm scared of ships, I always have been. They just creep me out. The bad thing is: I'd like to get over it because it sounds fun. I just don't think it'll happen and it kinda makes me crazy when people try to explain how great it is to me and try to force me to go on one. If I ever do, it'll be because I want to and because I feel like I can finally get over it, not because someone else wants to.
Ok.. that's my little break from studying.

So today I got the best surprise - I won the Jack Padgett Award for Outstanding Senior Philosophy Major! I had no idea I'd won it - they never told me and it was announced at Honors Convocation and, if you weren't there to hear me as I stood up, I was like.. "HUH?!" as they announced it. lol.. I'm so happy about that, I've wanted it since I started the major my sophomore year. I was always like.. dammit my name is going to be on that placque! And now it will be. I was just a little sad because Dr. Garvin wasn't able to be there and I'm sure he had a lot to do with me winning the prize. I'm going to miss the Philosophy Department - they've become our (Bryan, Chris, Jon and I) friends over the last few years and it'll be strange not to: 1) talk about alcohol, the nucleus succumbens, and crazy stories of drunken bears with Garvin, 2) have the 'eau de Jorg' (i.e. pipe smoke scent) wafting about campus, 3) having Jorg lead the class into believing that he killed a goat in his basement on a Christmas morning and made pudding with the blood (and all his other made-up stories).... oh the memories, there are tons more I'm sure.
Also, hooray for money - my Mom gave me $50 for senior week. :) She came up for HC today and we went to Olive Garden for lunch afterwards. We're going to go shopping after graduation and moving are all finished up - I am way excited, I need clothes. This summer is going to be great. :)

Well.. after looking at all the stuff I have to do, I've decided that I'm not going to go to senior party. It sounds like it'll be a lot of fun, I'm sorry I won't be there.
Bryan and I promised Whitney a few weeks ago that we'd go to her dance recital, so we'll probably be going when her family comes down for it on either Friday or Sunday. We couldn't take time out for the recital and party, so we had to choose the one we committed to earlier.
I just finished my econometrics for... 45 minutes from now. I might go and run after my meeting, since Bryan will still be in class anyways and I'd still like to go. Then, I'll come back and shower and get to work. It'll be another late night.

Ugh.. I have SO much stuff to do for the rest of the semester:
- finish my calculus lab (tonight)
- grammar review for my creative writing story due friday
- revise my creative writing story due friday
- calculus homework due monday
- calculus test this friday
- art history project: research, write, slideshow, meet with group, etc. due next wednesday
- art history: reading notes Ch 4 to end of book (Ch 8, I think) due next wednesday
- art history: type up class notes... or not (depending on time)due next wednesday
- econometrics for tomorrow (doing it tomorrow morning)
- art history final
- calculus final
- math econ final
I just got invited to senior party. I don't know what to do. I have a ton of work that I really need all the time I can get for, and I don't know if I actually want to go, not to mention that I don't have 40$ to shell out for it. In a way, I feel like I should go because it's the last KD thing I'll ever do and because Whitney(& Dustin)/Kathleen/Natalie/Kathy/Allyson(sp?) will be there. But, on the other hand, I feel like I don't belong there and am just kinda done already - I have been to one dance, one bid night, and had a quickie white rose ceremony... that was the extent of my involvement this year. I have until Wednesday to decide... we'll see.
On another note:
-I ran 4.75 miles on an elliptical Friday afternoon, and I ran 3 miles on it today. Bryan and I have been trying to work out every day for an hour (or less), and I actually like it and feel better because of it.
-Oh, and I'm living at his house this summer and will be working at his dad's firm doing something or other (either paralegal or file-scanning techie stuff) for better money than I'd be making at Somerset (where I'd be trying to get a job otherwise).
-I have to buy mucho clothes again because all I have is fall/winter stuff... it's fun but way too much money.
-Oh yeah, I'm going to try to save up for an ipod ASAP... running sans tunes is getting boring.

Senioritis has finally hit.
* I haven't done the reading assignments for Creative Writing for about 2 weeks now - it started when I just didn't have time to get them done, but now I just don't even bother. Hey, I'm taking it credit/no credit, so it's not like it matters.
* I haven't had time to get the reading in Art History done either. I'm going to do it though, because we have to have notes in our portfolio on all the reading... grr. Please, this is Egyptian stuff, and I already know what the book is talking about.
* I should be finishing a story for Creative Writing... it's due tomorrow, and I haven't started yet.
* I didn't have enough time to study (at all) for my math econ test this past Wednesday, I'm just going to leave it at that. Let's just say I made a really smart decision by going to Notre Dame for law school next year.
* I'm keeping up in my calculus class.
* McCarley is really laid-back about deadlines/meetings/assignments... which is really really good.
* Only a little less than 5 weeks until graduation!
The good news:
* I got a 10,000/year fellowship from Notre Dame, that's 30,000 that I don't have to take out loans for, which makes me really happy. And, I qualified for all 18,500 in federal loans too, so that'll be good.
* Bryan and I are planning that we'll probably get married over the month-long winter break of our 3rd year of law school. We will have both just lost our parent's insurance, so we wouldn't have insurance anyways (instead of losing it early by getting married at an earlier time). We won't have to deal with conflicts with studying for and passing the BAR exam after graduation. And, we can get married right at the beginning of the break and then take a couple weeks and go on a honeymoon, probably to Europe.
* My art history professor just assigned me the easiest topic for my research project/presentation: A history of the Cairo Museum and how the government of Egypt oversees the archeaology, art, etc. of the country. I'm so happy I have an easy topic, I so don't want to have to work hard.

Yesterday was a pretty good day. In addition to all the usual stuff that goes on in my life, I had three things happen:
1) I ran into my grandbig in the KC - Deanne's getting married at Albion this summer! It was really good to see her, she reminded me of why I joined KD and why I was so happy my first year in the house. That senior class was just full of amazing people.
2) I met my great-grandlittle! Allyson is really really cool - she even has the dirty/sarcastic sense of humor that the rest of us do! Yay for the duck-alligators :)
3) Notre Dame: The Law School is giving me a 10,000 per year fellowship! Although it is only slightly less than 1/3 of the tuition costs per year, it still helps a lot. Hey, it's 30,000 that I won't have to take loans out for.
Most current joke: I'm working at Hooters this summer! lol... Totally kidding, but it's a hilarious idea cause I'm so not like that.

Panties: Friend or Foe?
They come in all sorts of colors, shapes, sizes and fabrics. Some are cheap, others are way too expensive. But, (unless you're a total skank or you're just really lazy about doing laundry and let yourself run out) you've got to have them. My question is: Who makes these things?! Who decides that women want a jeweled string going up their crack? Who says that mesh will be comfortable to sit in all day at work? Who chooses the puppy, rainbow, and other child-like designs for ladies cotton panties? And, more importantly, why do they do it?
Are the fun, flirty, sexy styles meant to give women confidence in their own sex appeal, or are they (as some fem-nazi would say) just another way to keep women in the traditional roles that they've been in: 1) sex-kitten slut and 2) pure and chaste naive girl. Why does it have to be one or the other? Are women able to freely go between the two, switching from respectable businesswoman by day to wild sexy and slutty by night?
In my opinion, cute underwear are just fun and are a good way to boost your confidence. If you're feeling a little saucy because you're wearing a pair of new panties that are just a little more exciting than your normal ones, it might give you that little pick-me-up that you needed. But, the outrageous panties are just an annoyance. Seriously, I will not pay $30 for a g-string made out of spandex and rhinestones! Besides for being outrageously expensive, that can't be comfortable - imagine the rhinestones scratching against your skin! Ouch!

Well.. it's now official: Bryan and I are going to Notre Dame for law school.
I'm happy with that decision. I wasn't prepared for MSU's econ program. I'm behind in math and I just can't handle taking 3 huge math classes during the summer - I'm burnt out right now, I've been going for 3 years straight. I need a summer break of working and doing nothing. I also couldn't force myself to go to MSU and be without Bryan - travelling between the two probably wouldn't have worked because both of us were going to have really intense schedules and tons of work. So, I know I made the right choice for me.
I know... people are going to tell me I'm passing up a 'huge opportunity', but I'm ok with that. It's not that huge of an opportunity because I'd be behind all the way through. I don't want to do that to myself. If I did do econ, I'd want to be properly prepared. I'd owe that to myself and to the program. So, it's just not the right time for that.
I'm happy with going to Notre Dame. I think it'll be a great place for Bryan and I (he visited yesterday and said it would be perfect and that I'll love it there). I think I just need to give law a chance. I have been into this tunnel-vision thing over econ for over a year and I just blocked the idea of law being something I would enjoy out of my head. It's time I give it a chance, it used to be THE thing I wanted to do. So, it is the thing I'm going to do and I know I'll like it and be successful. And maybe someday - after I pass the bar, make money, and pay off my student loans from law school - I'll be able to go and get a Master's. I don't know if I would want to worry about doing the dissertation work, maybe an applied degree would be better anyways.
Argh.. I have to go do math econ now.... I just finished the 1st problem - it only took me like... 2+ hours. 4 more problems to go :( Man.. now it's going to be hard to motivate myself to keep up on my directed study too. Oh well, I'll do it and I'll do fine.
I'm just relieved and happy to know what is going to happen now and to be able to be excited about my future :)

Well.. I heard from ND's econ program today, I didn't get in. Surprising yet not surprising - They're #76 (MSU is #25), so I thought I'd get in. But, they also only admit 8-10 students, so I didn't think I'd get in. Not a big deal, I doubt I would've gone there anyways, not after getting into MSU.
Well, I checked my midterm grades and only 1 class had anything listed: 4.0 in Calculus I. :) Like I didn't know that already.
I have to do my econometrics tonight... for tomorrow.

Spring Break was pretty fun. Bryan and I went to Las Vegas with his parents and his aunt and uncle. All of us stayed at the Bellagio - it was amazing! The night before we left (Saturday night.. I think) we went to the Red Wings game (Woot for the firm's season tickets!) and watched them spank some other team (I can't remember who). Anyways, when we were in Vegas we went to see: La Femme, Rita Rudner, O, and Ka (The last 2 are both Cirque du Soleil and were totally cool). We gambled a bit and I was up 60$ at one point and then fed the machines a little.. ending up at +30$. Not too bad, considering I was the only person in the group that ended up ahead. We had planned to go clubbing 2 nights... but after we got done with the shows at about midnight, we were just exhausted and didn't go. Kinda sad, but it's not like we're really 'club people' anyways. But, before we decided not to go clubbing, I bought a great dress to wear to clubs. It's yellow and is a halter-style tight knit stripe-y dress. (I don't know how else to explain it.) Anyways, it's totally not something I'd usually buy, but it looks really good on me. I wore it to the Rita Rudner show and afterwards, we went to dinner - I headed out of the restaurant to the restrooms (in the NY NY casino) and I got a couple catcalls - LOL. It was hilarious.
Other than the great room and the great shows, we also had great food at some yummy restaurants. There was an asian restaurant we went to, Ah Sin (at Paris), and they had great satay. Bryan's sister Courtney came and spent a few days with us on the trip and one day we were going to the Ghirardelli chocolate place and there was this outside bar with a band playing... well they were having a "booty shaking" contest, and Courtney entered. She would've won if it weren't for the very large lady that was forced to participate (and dance to "I like big butts"). Anyways, afterwards the bar said that everyone could get a free shot... but we were leaving anyways. Sadness. Oh well.
Of course, there was some drinking involved as well. One day we were in Bally's casino and didn't want to gamble anymore so we went to a tequila bar and I had a watermelon margarita (didn't taste very good) and I got totally drunk for about 30 minutes. The most memorable drink was in my "Vegas combo meal" at the airport at 10am when we were getting ready to leave - I had a personal pizza from Pizza Hut and a spicy Bloody Mary. Seriously, it was a wonderful breakfast. lol.
On another note, I didn't get ANY work done over break. It has been kinda frustrating, but I'll get it done. Tonight I'm watching the Red Wings game. I am so happy hockey is back this year, I forgot how much I missed it.
Oh yeah, an update:
Econ programs: U of M, rejected. MSU, accepted. Notre Dame, no word yet. (Also accepted at Wayne State)
Law schools: U of M, waitlisted. MSU, accepted, King scholarship program. Notre Dame, accepted. (Also accepted with full scholarships at Toledo and Wayne State)
I'm really torn about what to do for grad school. Bryan is going to Notre Dame (everything has been sent in and is binding). I got into Notre Dame too... but I also got into MSU's econ program. I didn't think that would happen (no one did... my profs are shocked/amazed). I planned on going to Notre Dame with Bryan, and then I got into MSU for econ and now it's so complicated. We've been trying to figure out what is best for me, which is hard. I feel like I want to be with Bryan (not just want, but NEED), but it really has started to seem apparent to me and everyone else that econ seems to be what I care about most. It is, I really do like it. I guess I'm just a little scared because I know I'm going to be the underdog again(like I have been in my math econ class). But who knows, they wouldn't have admitted me if they didn't think I could do the work. It's just frustrating to know that Bryan and I will be 2.5 hours apart (in different states!) and living in our own apartments. It's going to be 3 years of this... I guess I'm scared about it. It'd be different if I was only signing on for one year of this because, even if it was bad, it'd only be one year. But, this is three years (Bryan will graduate from law school in 3 years and then we'll find somewhere between where he's working in Detroit and where I'm going to school). Who knows, I might be able to transfer to U of M after I get my Master's at MSU. That might be good. I guess we'll just have to see.
Bryan is planning on visiting Notre Dame this Friday... I want to go and yet I don't. I'm one of those people who tend to feel like they're missing out when someone talks about something great that they're doing that I could have done... even if it isn't actually something I wanted to do. I'm hoping to visit MSU to see the program and the people there and then try to find an apartment - I could do the school visit this Thursday and then go to find an apartment next Thursday when my Mom can come too. I'm nervous about being at a huge school and being on my own again, which sounds strange to me because I know that I have always been very independent. I feel like I've changed a lot and it's going to be weird to not see Bryan during the week. But, he reminds me that we have done this during the summers for the past 2 years... which is true. It's worked and we're fine. Things are going to be OK. And besides, we're going to get married in 3 years :)
